Dedicated to

  • Those who don't know when to stop,
  • Those who look for something special in retirement,
  • Those who feel that life has kicked them in the teeth.

This is an unusual book. It is neither a work of reference nor a book that tells you “how to do it”.

It is a compilation of pieces by forty different people who had experienced retirement of just two months up to more than twenty five years.

They were asked to major on the emotional aspects of retirement and its close relationship with ageing. They were to write from the heart, to tell it as it is and in their own style.

This has resulted in a 99 page book of very personal pieces of great variety and interest. They write about the joy, the pain, the pitfalls, the freedom and how they coped with the sudden change in social status and domestic compromise. Mostly it is in prose but some is expressed in verse and a few in fiercely sad poems.

The text is lightened by excellent photographs, a selection of bon mots and words of wisdom from various sources.

Even if your retirement is hardly a glimmer on the distant horizon, you will find this book a fascinating insight into what might be discovered. You will laugh, you will cry - you will love it! It will make you think!

Doing Anything After Work?... has been privately funded. When costs have been recovered all profits will go to appropriate charities.
